The group began with the School Picnic - to raise awareness and encourage the community (parents, staff and children) to share food with each other and eat together in a relaxed atmosphere whilst the children played on the green.  It was such a success, we decided to make it an annual event.

Next, we came up with a mission statement:

  • To inspire children to enjoy growing, making and eating food

  • To encourage children to try new food and experiences

  • To support the provision for cooking in the classroom

  • To promote ethical and healthy food choices

Since then, we have been involved in cooking with the kids as well as helping to organise the Tapas and Music evening with a fantastic cookery demonstration for parents by professional cookery writer and mum Jenny Chandler.  This raised money (£500) which we are planning to put towards food-based activities for the children at Hotwells, including regular cookery lessons, farm visits and possibly visits to local allotments to see how food comes from plot to plate.
